10 Minute Tidy Office Tip 63: Awaiting Response

by shannon on February 4, 2013

What do you do with pieces of mail, e-mails, or projects when you are waiting for a response? For mail, I recommend creating a Pending file in your Active File folders and checking it each week. For e-mails, I either flag the e-mail so I know that there is something that still needs to happen or you can create a Pending folder in your email Inbox. If you do the second option, it is really important to get into the habit of checking your Pending or Awaiting Response folder in your e-mail Inbox, otherwise you may lose track of those e-mails as they are out of site, out of mind.

As for projects that are awaiting a response, this may be more specific to your type of business. Perhaps you have bids out that you are waiting to hear back from to find out if they are accepted. If so, again it would depend on if you are waiting for a phone call, e-mail, or fax as the response form.

No matter what type of business you do in your office there are always things that are waiting for someone’s response. Take the time right now to create a system that will work for you and your business so that those e-mails, papers, and faxes don’t get lost in the shuffle of the more important things to do.
